How to monetize your music

Before the term “monetization”, artistes were used to making money from what we call “traditional revenue sources” this means, sources popularly known by artistes were based on their use of sound recordings or composition but times have changed and there are new ways to monetize your music.

There is an important difference between monetization and making money through various ways. As an artiste who might not be used to present day monetization, you might have heard of artistes making money from recordings, Songwriters whose compositions were played on radio or performed live.

If music monetization is not about traditional revenue sources then what is it?? Music monetization to simply put is making money through non traditional sources and they are called SOCIAL VIDEO PLATFORMS. Here are the mediums to help you;

1. Facebook: This is by no means the most popular and effective marketing tool to monetize your music and it is called music revenue sharing which is new feature for monetization. It is available to creators and artistes. You can upload your videos to Facebook from its library to place in their creations. Sign up for the Facebook monetization and you will earn when your music is streamed and when you stream it yourself. For more details, visit Facebook website and read their recent blog about Meta for Creators.

2.YouTube: Register and upload your music on YouTube content ID system that way your music can be identified, claimed and monetized. YouTube then fingerprints those assets and those reference files to their content management system (CMS) for Content ID scanning and monetization. This is a way you can start earning your royalties. Visit the YouTube website for more information.

3. TikTok: This is the easiest way to earn more money. All you have to do is to tap into your creativity and create a trend it could be a dance challenge or something even more creative and upload it on TikTok. You get to earn when a video is uploaded using your song not when it’s streamed. When you distribute to TikTok, you’ll also be distributing your release to Resso. Resso is TikTok’s streaming platform, allowing users of the wildly popular app to stream, save and add artists’ songs to playlists or share across social media channels. Artists can build profiles, create posts using their song lyrics, promote songs, and interact with users directly.

It’s safe to say that this present age has blessed us with various sources to earn from. So are you an upcoming star and you are not yet making money? You should try these out. I’m so eager to know which one you tried and the results. Expect more music industry related posts

    I think Tiktok is a good platform to gain traction too. So many people have been getting famous off of it even musicians too.

      I totally agree! TikTok has given talented individuals a platform not just to showcase their talents but to earn from it. The best part is that, everyone is talented so everyone is welcome on TikTok (just follow community guidelines 🙃)
