Long time no blog post! This was for a good reason as I wanted Djembe to become a better blog with more content. Speaking of content, today’s post is totally different as for the first time, we have an actual interview with a trending artist.

You may know her as “Qing Madi” on TikTok but she’s more than a TikToker singing to covers of songs as she has released her first single, “see finish” which is garnering multiple streams. Via our e-interview she told me more about the person we see on camera.

My first question to her was to introduce herself to her already existing and new fans.

My name is Chimamanda Madi Chukwuma, born July 1st,2006 so I’m currently 16. I grew up in Benin City but recently moved to Lagos state. I’m a singer, writer and a dancer.

For a 16 year old, when did the idea of entertainment start? Because some might say the control you have over your voice should have taken years.

Honestly, I have always been in entertainment. There are videos of me on my Instagram where I was singing in church at the age of 7. Entertainment is my safe space and being someone who spends most of her time alone, communication was a problem but I found solace in writing and singing.

For a quiet person it is most likely you will have selected friends, what was the inspiration behind your song “see finish”?

It’s a funny one but I had a best friend who wanted the attention of a guy so bad and decided the best way to go about it was to slander my name. It broke my heart and it made me reflect on how I feel like people who I think are my friends actually are basically with me because of what they can achieve not because they truly value our friendship. Maybe, I give more than I should.

If were in your shoes, I think I would have written a song too. Now, it makes so much sense how personal the song is. So tell me, how do you feel knowing that the song you made to channel your sadness has gained so much streams?

Sincerely, I am shocked because this was actually a freestyle that I posted on my TikTok and it’s amazing to see the kind of welcoming it has gotten so far.

Since “see finish” is a hit, are you going to go into making more songs other than covers?

Most definitely.

Just being inquisitive, are there any side attractions?

Not at all, just music.
